This online training covers general information about typical child development, taking into consideration that all domains of development are interrelated. It also familiarizes participants with a range of conditions and disabilities that impact development. It is recommended for all Early Intervention staff and therapists as well as anyone working with children aged birth to three.

Designed for all FIT providers, this online training is a non-facilitated learning experience that includes follow up activities to be completed and reviewed with the participant’s supervisor in their respective early intervention agency.

There are seven lessons that address the foundational concepts of providing early intervention services, specifically:

the development of strong relationships between the caregiver and the child and the caregiver and the provider; and
the use of routines as the basis for providing intervention to children and families
The seven lessons are:

This training is for early intervention professionals in the use of the Infant-Toddler Developmental Assessment (IDA), which must be completed for any evaluation of a child over the age of 1 month (adjusted). The online portion of the training covers all phases of the IDA process and includes a case study that course participants begin to score during the online training, and then complete on their own and submit for review.

Important Note: The IDA is a complex process that takes time and practice to learn and understand, so participants need more support than an online course can offer. In an effort to provide the most tailored and appropriate support possible, general information regarding your performance on the course's required assignment will be shared with your agency's IDA Lead. Thank you for participating in this course!

Family Service Coordinators (FSCs) are responsible for informing families about the Comprehensive Multidisciplinary Evaluation (CME) and for gathering critical information from families necessary for the IDA process. This course is an excerpt of the full IDA course for evaluators. It is designed ONLY for those who have the role of Family Service Coordinator and are NOT in dual-role. This course gives a brief overview of the IDA process and covers the first three phases of IDA, which are a primary responsibility of FSCs: Referral, Parent Interview, and Health Review. This course offers a certificate of completion for FSCs. There are no CEUs provided.

Designed for all FIT providers, this three part module discusses the primary building blocks of the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). Every section of the IFSP is connected to the Routines Based Interview (RBI). This module supports the understanding that the ultimate goal of the IFSP is to enable children to be active participants in a variety of settings. Through the RBI process, providers will understand the child’s needs in the context of family life.

Designed for all FIT providers, this two part module will support the understanding of the description of a child’s functional abilities, strengths and needs in relation to the three early childhood outcomes, and how the child’s developmental status impacts his or her ability to participate in daily routines and activities. It will support providers in understanding how assessment, planning and intervention are all connected and will support them in writing comprehensive descriptions of the child in family friendly language.

Designed for all FIT providers, this three part module supports the IFSP team in understanding and developing functional outcomes and strategies based on family concerns, priorities, resources, observations and evaluation information. It will support understanding that the functional outcome statement is a roadmap describing where the family wants to go and in thinking about what can be different in the family’s life with support from the team. This module also supports providers in moving from the development of functional outcomes into implementation strategies the family will be able to use during their daily routines and activities.

This training will provide trainees with the rationale for collecting data on early childhood outcomes, explain the methods used to collect outcomes data in New Mexico, explain the intended use of the Early Childhood Outcomes Summary Form, and illustrate how to effectively determine a comparison summary rating for each of the outcomes.

This training is intended to complement and clarify information included in the NM Family Infant Toddler Program's technical assistance document, Evaluation & Assessment. It will highlight the principles, concepts, and recommended practices essential to the evaluation of infants and toddlers that are central to effective early intervention. The training will engage participants around an actual family of a young infant using a case-study approach.
