The UNM CDD Early Childhood Learning Network (ECLN) offers free online courses, most of which are available through the UNM HSC Moodle website. HSC Moodle is the Learning Management System ECLN utilizes to host its online courses. Participants must register for a free Moodle account in order to access the courses. See the course descriptions below for registration and CEU information for each course.

FIT - Child Development: Discovery, Unfoldment and Variations

This online training covers general information about typical child development, taking into consideration that all domains of development are interrelated. It also familiarizes participants with a range of conditions and disabilities that impact development. It is recommended for all Early Intervention staff and therapists as well as anyone working with children aged birth to three.

FIT - Foundations of Relationship-Based Early Intervention

Designed for all FIT providers, this online training is a non-facilitated learning experience that includes follow up activities to be completed and reviewed with the participant’s supervisor in their respective early intervention agency.

There are seven lessons that address the foundational concepts of providing early intervention services, specifically:

the development of strong relationships between the caregiver and the child and the caregiver and the provider; and
the use of routines as the basis for providing intervention to children and families

FIT - IDA: Infant-Toddler Developmental Assessment (David Case Study)

Introduction to the Infant-Toddler Developmental Assessment (IDA)

This training is for early intervention professionals in the use of the Infant-Toddler Developmental Assessment (IDA), which must be completed for any evaluation of a child over the age of 1 month (adjusted). The online portion of the training covers all phases of the IDA process and includes a case study that course participants begin to score during the online training, and then complete on their own and submit for review.

Important Note: The IDA is a complex process that takes time and practice to learn and understand, so participants need more support than an online course can offer. In an effort to provide the most tailored and appropriate support possible, general information regarding your performance on the course's required assignment will be shared with your agency's IDA Lead. FIT - IDA: Infant-Toddler Developmental Assessment (Phases 1 to 3 only)

(for single-role Family Service Coordinators)

Family Service Coordinators (FSCs) are responsible for informing families about the Comprehensive Multidisciplinary Evaluation (CME) and for gathering critical information from families necessary for the IDA process. This course is an excerpt of the full IDA course for evaluators. It is designed ONLY for those who have the role of Family Service Coordinator and are NOT in dual-role. This course gives a brief overview of the IDA process and covers the first three phases of IDA, which are a primary responsibility of FSCs: Referral, Parent Interview, and Health Review. This course offers a certificate of completion for FSCs.

FIT - IFSP Module 1: The Routines Based Interview (RBI)

The Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP)

Designed for all FIT providers, this three part module discusses the primary building blocks of the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). Every section of the IFSP is connected to the Routines Based Interview (RBI). This module supports the understanding that the ultimate goal of the IFSP is to enable children to be active participants in a variety of settings. Through the RBI process, providers will understand the child’s needs in the context of family life.

FIT - IFSP Module 2: Present Abilities, Strengths and Needs (PASN)

The Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP)

Designed for all FIT providers, this two part module will support the understanding of the description of a child’s functional abilities, strengths and needs in relation to the three early childhood outcomes, and how the child’s developmental status impacts his or her ability to participate in daily routines and activities. It will support providers in understanding how assessment, planning and intervention are all connected and will support them in writing comprehensive descriptions of the child in family friendly language.

FIT - IFSP Module 3: Functional Outcomes and Strategies

The Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP)

Designed for all FIT providers, this three part module supports the IFSP team in understanding and developing functional outcomes and strategies based on family concerns, priorities, resources, observations and evaluation information. It will support understanding that the functional outcome statement is a roadmap describing where the family wants to go and in thinking about what can be different in the family’s life with support from the team. This module also supports providers in moving from the development of functional outcomes into implementation strategies the family will be able to use during their daily routines and activities.

FIT - New Mexico Early Childhood Outcomes (ECO) System

This training will provide trainees with the rationale for collecting data on early childhood outcomes, explain the methods used to collect outcomes data in New Mexico, explain the intended use of the Early Childhood Outcomes Summary Form, and illustrate how to effectively determine a comparison summary rating for each of the outcomes.

FIT - Part C Orientation

The Part C Orientation is an online training designed to support all new FIT program staff, parents, and other community service providers in understanding New Mexico’s early intervention system including principles, policies, program design and practices. This training will help you become familiar with the framework of early intervention, the core values and the New Mexico Family Infant Toddler (FIT) Program Key Principles and Concepts that are the foundation of providing services to infants, toddlers and their families.

FIT - The Developmental Evaluation: Evaluation as Intervention

This training is intended to complement and clarify information included in the NM Family Infant Toddler Program's technical assistance document, Evaluation & Assessment. It will highlight the principles, concepts, and recommended practices essential to the evaluation of infants and toddlers that are central to effective early intervention. The training will engage participants around an actual family of a young infant using a case-study approach.

FIT Foundations of Family Service Coordination - Segment 1: The Role of the FSC

In this first segment of the Foundations of Family Service Coordination, participants will learn about early intervention in New Mexico and the role of the Family Service Coordinator and begin to explore concepts important for working with families. This segment is the REQUIRED prerequisite to attending the first interactive session of FSC training.

Course Length is approximately 70 minutes to complete all 3 modules.

NOTE: This course is a prerequisite for the interactive Foundations of Family Service Coordination training, as such it is only available for registration in the month leading up to the interactive sessions. Please speak to your supervisor to find out the next available training date.

FIT Foundations of Family Service Coordination - Segment 2: Referral to IFSP

In this second segment of the Foundations of Family Service Coordination, participants will learn about the first steps in the family’s journey through early intervention from referral through the development of the initial IFSP. This segment is the REQUIRED prerequisite to attending the first interactive session of FSC training.

Course Length is approximately 3.5 hours to complete all 9 modules.

FIT Foundations of Family Service Coordination - Segment 3: Ongoing Service Coordination

In this third segment of the Foundations of Family Service Coordination, participants will learn about monitoring of the IFSP and ensuring that families are receiving the appropriate services, six-month reviews, annual IFSP meetings, and the basics of documentation and billing. This segment is the REQUIRED prerequisite to attending the third interactive session of FSC training.

Course Length is approximately 70 minutes to complete all 3 modules.

In this fourth segment of the Foundations of Family Service Coordination, participants will learn about the early childhood transition process including transition planning, the transition conference, and the initial comprehensive evaluation for Part B services. This segment is the REQUIRED prerequisite to attending the fourth interactive session of FSC training.

Course Length is approximately 2 hours to complete all 6 modules.

Home Visiting Program - Attachment Vitamins

A Foundational Course in Early Childhood Mental Health

Attachment Vitamins is an eight week course to provide participants with a solid foundation in early childhood mental health. The course uses a developmental psychopathology framework that describes the interplay of risk and protective factors in the child, the parent-child relationship, and the family environment in affecting the child’s developmental trajectory. The content includes developmental milestones, temperamental styles, individual differences in quality of attachment, and normative fears from infancy through the preschool years. The course also describes mental health concerns in early childhood, provides a framework for assessing the possible causes of emotional disturbances and challenging behaviors, and outlines approaches to support or restore the child’s healthy social and emotional development. Professional development issues, including self-care, reflective practice, supervision, and cultural considerations specific to the state of New Mexico are also covered.

This five-part training discusses typical child development through the context of one family's experience and it tells a story from prenatal development through five years of age. The resources and learning materials are imparted through a home visiting perspective. This is a required training for home visiting staff and managers and is also recommended for anyone interested in gathering information and resources on typical child development.
