Q: What are the 11 considerations and why is it important for me to know about them? <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: In 2011, Governor Martinez mandated that at every IEP for a child who has a diagnosis of ASD, should include a discussion about the \u201c11 considerations\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 11 considerations would include a discussion about the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Extended educational programming<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Daily schedules reflecting minimal unstructured time and active engagement in learning activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. In-home and community-based training (or viable alternatives) that assist with acquisition of social\/behavioral skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Positive behavior supports<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Futures\/transition planning<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Parent\/family training and support<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Staff-to-student ratio<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Communication interventions<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Social skills supports<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Professional educator\/staff support<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. Teaching strategies in peer-reviewed and\/or research-based practices<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
